Utah usually brings way more sunny days than dramatic weather events. After seeing rain in the forecast ending right before sunrise, I definitely didn’t want to miss the chance.
This morning, while scouting different parts of Shenandoah National Park, I stumbled upon a large section of forest affected by the recent fire. The smell of burning was still in the air. The dense fog throughout the area made it one of the most memorable photography days of my life.
I noticed this tree right off Skyline Drive a couple of years ago and had wanted to capture its portrait ever since. Finally, the weather conditions cooperated, and the wide-angle lens did exactly what I was hoping for.
Nothing hinted at good weather conditions that day. I almost gave up on the idea of photographing in the evening and planned to go to bed early instead. A large cloud in the sky and a gut feeling made me turn around when I had already passed the area. The sunset light turned out to be amazing.
