    Utah

    connecting with Utah...
Utah usually brings way more sunny days than dramatic weather events. After seeing rain in the forecast ending right before sunrise, I definitely didn’t want to miss the chance.

Nothing hinted at good weather conditions that day. I almost gave up on the idea of photographing in the evening and planned to go to bed early instead. A large cloud in the sky and a gut feeling made me turn around when I had already passed the area. The sunset light turned out to be amazing.

I literally fell in love with the grace and beauty of this tree at the visitor center in Capitol Reef NP. It’s simply perfect—don’t you think?

This spot, not far from the entrance of Arches National Park, could be a decent one for people who, like me, are too lazy to drive farther while still half-asleep.

One of those occasions when you spot the perfect light while driving down the road and, after a few seconds of hesitation, decide to turn around, find a place to pull over, and take the chance.

At first, that morning didn’t bring the light I was hoping for. I even ignored the batch of photos I had taken that day while reviewing the raw material. It was only on a second look that I realized the light was just right—there was no need for any extra drama in the picture. The place feels sacred. I'm sure it was exactly this way for people who used to live here.

I was ready to ask my wife to drive our car up and down the road to create the effect I was looking for when, finally, a few cars passed by and gave me what I needed. As for my wife, she didn't get her chance to escape and had to keep pretending she liked the silly process she was involuntarily involved in.

I strongly believe that the colors in Utah have a life of their own, not obeying the usual laws of physics. How else could one explain that the cool tones of the blue hour highlight the landscape while making it glow with such intense shades of red?
